Social work plays an essential role in increasing life’s quality of people in need, involving challenges and opportunities for those who are working in this field. This article aims to examine the difficulties and advantages that social workers encounter in their professional field. The article addresses both theoretical and practical aspects. First, it analyzes the evolution of social work practice, with an emphasis on the ethical aspects of the profession. Subsequently, the research focuses on assessing the applicability of challenges and opportunities by conducting qualitative research. The study carried out involved 5 interviews and a focus group conducted in the field of non-governmental services, with participation of social workers. The data analysis was carried out based on predetermined thematic axes. The results of the research indicated that social workers face various challenges in practicing their profession, but these are counterbalanced by the opportunities they have to influence the lives of those around them positively and develop their skills and knowledge.
