The research regarding the ethnic groups in Romania from the first half of the 20th century has included Roma population in a small portion. In the 30s Ion Chelcea, a well known sociologist accomplished a certain number of systematic research regarding several Roma generations. After the Second World War, the research on Roma population increased. Therefore, we can mention the researches of Nicolae Gheorghe and Mihai Merfea. In the last years, especially after 1990, the interest on Roma population increased and certain studies were made. The most important perspectives used in research regarding the Roma minority are: the social-economic approach, the relation with authorities, identity perspective.
