At almost 15 years from the communist fall, even though the situation changed in a positive manner, amid most countries from Central and Eastern Europe as well as Central Asia, we meet besides freedom, market economy and multiple opportunities a multitude of negative phenomena such as chronic poverty, social polarizing and major risks for children coming from a numerous family.
Most of the children who live in families getting through difficulties (mono-parental families, affected by divorce, domestic violence, unemployment) are at risk of social exclusion. The studies made by ECHP (2001) show households with two adults having over three children, as well as families with one parent and at least a child are being affected by poverty and major social risks.
At the regional level, the Baltic States such as the states from Central Europe have achieved significant progress in the area of child protection but we also meet states such as Caucasus and Central Asia who deal with similar situations.
