This paper presents the status quo of return migration in Romania in the first 25 years of the 21st century. It reviews the definitions related to the phenomenon of migration (emigration, immigration, remigration/ re-immigration/ repatriation/ rollback, return migration) from a double perspective – of the country of origin and of the host/ recipient country, as well as the causes of migration, the types of return migrants, and the forced-return migrants’ embeddedness. The focus of the paper is return migration in Romania, a phenomenon whose features changed from one decade to another.
