This study aims to contribute to the literature on foster care and service provision, to gain understanding ofparenting skills in interactions with the foster child.Method: theinvestigation assesses how foster parents think about their child, their relationship with their child, and their role as a substitute parent. The research was made through semi-tructured interviews uding the Parent Development Interview (PDI) (Slade, Aber, Berger, Bresgi, Kaplan, 2003). A sample of 52 foster parentsaged 36 to 71 years was evaluated. Results: Foster parents have a tendency to be rational about parenting and their child.This meansthey showlittle levels of parental sensitivity and are lack in the ability to promote attachment relations among the children in their care. Conclusions: Foster parents can improve the paths of development of children in their care. The data from this study could potentially inform further research and/or interventions to support recruitment, retention and reduction of multiple placements for this population.
