This year marks three decades since there birth of the field of social work in 1990. With the help of professionals from the "old Romanian school" and with experts from abroad, public institutions, NGOs, legislation and professional education have been reborn. The articles described below present a part of the successes and failures of the Romanian social work from 1990-2020, in a documented and scientifically validated manner.

The need for continuing professional training at an advanced level, 3 decades after the revival of the university education system in the field of social work in Romania has led to the development and accreditation of a doctoral program described by Patricia Runcan and Mihai Iovu. The article are guest he need for the development of a doctoral program in social work in the context of research, education and professional practice in Romania and describes the professional and transversal curriculum and competences obtained by the graduates.

Elisaveta Drăghici carries out an analysis of the social problems reflected in the written press of the years 1989-1990 in the context of the reconstruction of social work. The role of the press in showing social, economic and legislative issues is presented, providing an image of the society's reaction to the problems it faced and the strategies for solving these problems. On the one hand, the author identifies and describes the social categories and social problems highlighted in the press, and on the other hand, presents the way in which the issue of re-establishing social welfare institutions was approached by journalists.

Alina Breaz analyzes the results of some research of the last ten years, respectively 2010-2019, published in the Social Work Review, an emblematic journal in Romania for the field of social work, which aims to be a means of disseminating research, good practices, experiences in the field of social work, but also social policies, serving as a tool for social change.
Remus Runcan and Rebeca Lupşa carry out an impact analysis of the "Teen Challenge" substance addiction recovery program, using the case study method. The history of this program is described, which highlights the relevance of spiritual practices in rehabilitating drug addicts and presents the evolution of the program.
The current status of autism from a statistical, medical, legislative or recovery point of view is presented in the article signed by a team of authors from different universities and with different specializations in Romania: Stoia, Minulescu, Trancă and Bredicean. The authors also present a case study that highlights the development of the services provided within the first community center for children with autism in Romania, belonging to the Casa Faenza Association, during the 19 years of operation.

A significant medical problem now a day is cancer. It has implications in many areas, including psycho-social or spiritual. After the paradigm shift, in which cancer was no longer seen only in its fatalistic form, a new oncological subdiscipline, psycho-oncology, was created that responds to the psychosocial problems associated with this disease. Adelina Ştefănuţ and Mona Vintilă make a plea to support the development of this field, of psycho-oncology.

The practice of violating the right of the child to have a healthy family life, in the context of the divorce between the parents is a form of emotional abuse. Parental alienation, as a form of severe psychological abuse, is addressed by Sîrbu, Trancă, Toma and Tudorel through a qualitative analysis of the literature, which highlights a need for a clearer conceptualization of the terms: parental alienation, parental alienation syndrome or parental alienation disorder, in order to avoid confusion in multidisciplinary fields, such as psychology, social work, legal or pedagogical sciences, where their practical applicability is found.

The article signed by Bălău, Onaga, Povian, Neagoe and Runcan explores the theoretical implications and practical meanings of applying religious principles in the social counseling of persons with disabilities in relation to the current approach, which is predominantly secular. The authors present a case study analyzing the perception of practitioners who are involved in counseling people with disabilities regarding the role that religiosity can play in professional practice.

Working on the same common theme of spirituality, Neagoe and Balău discuss the practice of social work in relation to the evolution of the religious phenomenon, as well as the relevance of Christian spirituality in the context of increasing the secularization of social life. The first part sketches an image of recent religious transformations and their effects on society, with an emphasis on the social mission of the church and the role of religion in social work, and the second part analyzes the organization and functioning of the religious initiative, in the context in which the or its assert reliability of religiously founded systems.

Bordas-Mohorea and Sârbu present the results of a national study that addresses the delicate issue of financial independence of victims of domestic violence in residential centers in Romania, highlighting the financial abuses suffered by victims of domestic violence in residential centers, as well as the difficulties that victims face in terms of integration in to the labor market. The authors outlined in this article a profile of the financially independent victim.

The role of the social worker and a series of current difficulties faced by social workers in the field of school dropout prevention are presented by Loredana Trancă, based on a qualitative study carried out in the Western area of Romania.
The imprint of using modern information and communication technology has benefits and consequences at the family and social level. These are presented by Tudorel and Vintilă in an article that can be considered as a guide for specialists in the fields of social work and psychology, by analyzing the influence of social factors that can lead to over use or even dependence on technology.
The development and evolution of social work for three decades is briefly described by Alina Breaz, including aspects reflected in the higher education system at the national level.

In conclusion, issue 1/2020 of the Social Work Review aims to bring in front of the Romanian and international community of social workers, a collection of articles meant to mainly mark the evolution of the 30 years since the rebirth of social work in Romania.
