The main objective of the research was to identify the barriers and experiences encountered by social workers working in residential care homes for the elderly. Additionally, the study aimed to discover the most used techniques by social workers during interactions with beneficiaries. Qualitative research was employed to delve into detailed aspects of this phenomenon, applying an interview guide to 9 respondents. The results address the initial research questions, revealing the primary communication barriers (physical, psychological, medical, social), techniques used by social workers, the relationship with the family after institutionalization, and the level of participation in the social framework. As a result of the research, it was observed that communication within residential care homes serves multiple purposes, including problem resolution for beneficiaries, understanding, and addressing their needs, as well as maintaining autonomy and good socio-emotional well-being within the residential care community.
