The access of immigrants to housing and their living conditions represent important issues concerning their integration in the host society. In Romania most of immigrants are relying on the private sector of housing, social housing sector being underdeveloped and with no foreseeable development. A large part of the support received by immigrants to access or to improve their housing situation is offered by their own social networks or by nongovernmental organizations through their projects – most of them financed by European Union. Through the qualitative research conducted we intended to explore the housing experience of immigrants settled in Romania, trying to highlight their most important needs and continuing with the analysis of NGO specialists’ role in facilitating the access or improving the housing situation of immigrants.
Keywords: migration, immigrants, housing integration, non-governmental organizations
