Alcoholism becomes pathologic when it affects the normal psychosocial functioning of the person. If alcoholism would affect just the person then the problem would be severe but tolerable. But, it becomes a disaster for the family. In the American traditional experience the figure of the alcoholic is represented by a worker who wastes his salary and economies on alcoholic drinks leaving his family without any income. These images played a decisive role in occurrence of different syndicate and organisations movements in order to promote and support prohibition.
