As we know, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on several sector of our lives affecting the entire population. One of the categories most affected by the pandemic is represented by the elderly in terms of physical, psychological, and social characteristic of people over 65 years of age. Although the adoption of prevention procedures aimed to protect health systems, the impact on the lives of the elderly has been a major one, even more so with how the elderly were in the category of the most vulnerable groups, at significant risk to manifest serious forms of the disease. The dramatic impact on the daily life of the elderly, especially those with care needs, has generated multiple and new challenges which led to deterioration of the emotional health of the elderly who did not have access to the Internet and digital devices to stay connected with their close ones, but also with specialists. The thesis aims at a theoretical approach on the challenges encountered by the elderly during the pandemic, an approach that includes: the impact of the pandemic on the lives of the elderly, the relationship between forms of formal social support and informal social support, and consequences of the quarantine period.
